An Emerging Trend of Home Schooling!

Home schooling is a term used to teach in home or children other than school. Mostly parents, tutor or an online assistance is used to do this. Commonly parents have two reasons to do home schooling: dissatisfaction with the local schools and the other is interest in increased involvement with their children’s learning and development. Parents usually cite dissatisfaction due to the following reasons:

  • School Environment
  • The Curriculum
  • The quality of Academic Instruction
  • Bullying
  • Racism/Classism
  • Lack of Faith in School’s ability to cater to their Children’s special needs

Other parents think to have a better control over what and how their children are taught, to give instruction from a specific religious or moral position, to provide more adequately to an individual child’s aptitudes and abilities and to take benefit of the efficiency of one-to-one instruction. In this way they succeed to provide child more time in leisure activities, sports, socializing and non-academic learning.

Home schooling may also be a feature in the choice of parenting ways. It may be chosen by the families living in isolated and rural locations, for those temporarily abroad and for those who travel frequently. Some young athletes, musicians, dancers and actors are taught at home to accommodate their training and practice schedule more conveniently. Home schooling can also be a mentorship or apprenticeship and becomes more intimately acquainted because teacher or tutor spends more time with the child.

However, there are many drawbacks of home schooling. Most of the educationists think that socializing and coping with the children of their age at school enhances child’s personality. A child who does home schooling may not get a chance to speak or perform in public. Thus he feels shy or may have not developed enough confidence to cope challenges of modern world. Thirdly, a child who goes to school can get an opportunity to get knowledge or educated from other school of thoughts other than his/her parents. So they have diversity in their ideas and conquer world in various ways. The last but not least is the discipline which they get a chance to learn at school. Punctuality, dressed up in uniform and unity with other students is matchless.

As we all are aware of the pandemic situation due to the corona virus these days, home schooling becomes popular. Schools are giving online classes and parents work hard to educate their kids. In this time of uncertainty, most of the parents are unable to pay high fees of modern schools or they may be not satisfied with the online coaching. So, home schooling is a great option for them. In addition to its benefits, parents can give more time or focus on weak areas of their child and can enhance their results with better and higher grades. Parents feel free from the hustle of pick and drop duties of their kids to school and can utilize that time in building strong character of their child. They may also get a chance to learn other skills such as art activities, painting, writing, embroidery or house-hold chores. So, home schooling is a great choice and the best alternate way of keeping your child in touch with the studies now a days.
